Los Cristianos

An old fishing town turned family favourite.

Los Cristianos was a fishing village of 200 people until the 1960s, and unlike its purpose-built neighbours, it grew organically around an old town that still functions. The result is a more authentic feel: the squares fill with Spanish families on weekend evenings, the harbour sends ferries to La Gomera every two hours, and the Sunday market on the seafront is a local institution. The headline beach is Las Vistas, an enormous family-friendly stretch with the south's best accessibility infrastructure. Hotels are predominantly four-star and apartment-style, offering noticeably better value than Adeje for the same beach. Dining is unpretentious — paella houses, tapas bars, family Italian — but the seafront fish restaurants on the harbour serve some of the freshest catch on the island. Best for travellers who want sun, sand and convenience without the high-gloss prices of Adeje, and an excellent base for excursions thanks to the central transport links.

Atmosphere

Friendlier and less polished than Costa Adeje, with a working harbour, broad family beach and a pedestrianised old quarter where Tinerfeños still live.

Best For

Families, multi-gen groups, value-led travellers, accessibility-focused visitors.

Where to Stay

4-star hotels and apartment-style resorts; better value than neighbouring Adeje.

Where to Eat

Honest Spanish tapas, no-fuss Italian, family-run paella houses and the harbourside fish restaurants.

Insider Tip

Take the 5-minute walk to Playa de los Cristianos beach — the curve in front of the harbour — for a more local feel than the main strip.
