What to expect
The 5-kilometre descent from the cliff-top village of Masca through a near-vertical gorge to the Atlantic is the single most spectacular hike in Tenerife. Reopened in 2021 after years of safety works, it now requires a paid online reservation, hard hat and a return-by-boat ticket from the cove at the bottom. The trail drops 600 metres through cathedral-like volcanic cliffs, palm groves and natural rock arches, ending at a tiny pebble beach. Allow 4 hours down. The boat returns you to Los Gigantes for collection. One of Europe's great day-hikes.
