Volcanic Wine Tasting

What to expect

Tenerife wine has been quietly excellent for centuries — Shakespeare praised 'Canary sack' in Twelfth Night — and the island's volcanic soils and unusual indigenous grape varieties (Listán Negro, Listán Blanco, Negramoll) produce wines made nowhere else. Half-day winery tours through the Tacoronte-Acentejo or Ycoden-Daute-Isora regions visit two or three bodegas, walk you through the volcanic vineyards, and finish with a tasting of 5–6 wines paired with local cheeses and chorizo. The vines are often centuries old and grown in the unique 'cordón trenzado' technique seen nowhere else.

Ask for Bodegas Monje or Suertes del Marqués — the highest-rated boutique producers.
