The editor's take
La Caleta has reinvented itself in the last decade as Tenerife's most stylish dining village, and Playa del Callao is its tiny black-sand cove. There's barely room for two dozen towels, but the location is the appeal: walk barefoot off the sand into one of a dozen seafront restaurants, then return for a sunset swim. The water is calm, the rocks teem with sea life, and the village's white architecture wrapping the bay gives it a Greek-island feel. It's a place to come for an aperitif and a quick dip rather than a full beach day.
Insider Tip
Book La Vieja's terrace at sunset and pair with a sea-view aperitivo.
Photo Tip
From the western promenade, frame the bay with white village walls.
