How to enjoy a great Tenerife week for under €700 per person, all-in.
Tenerife has a deserved reputation as one of the best-value year-round sun destinations in Europe. With a few smart choices it's possible to spend a comfortable week here for under €700 per person including flights, accommodation, food and activities.
Flights. Booking 8-10 weeks ahead from the UK or Germany typically secures returns under £150 with budget carriers. Avoid the first weekends of school holidays. Tenerife South (TFS) serves the resort coast; Tenerife North (TFN) is better for Puerto de la Cruz.
Accommodation. Self-catering apartments in Los Cristianos run from €40 a night for a one-bed sleeping two. Aparthotels in Costa Adeje from €60 with pool. Avoid all-inclusive at the budget end — the food rarely justifies the upcharge.
Food. A menu del día at a Spanish-style restaurant runs €10-14 for three courses with bread and a drink. Markets like Mercado de África in Santa Cruz sell fresh produce at supermarket prices. Cooking even half your dinners cuts costs significantly.
Activities. The best things in Tenerife are free or nearly free: Mount Teide cable car (€42), Anaga hiking (free), Garachico natural pools (free), the beaches (free). Skip the expensive package excursions and use TITSA public buses (€5 day-ticket) plus Bono Bus discounts.
Transport. A small hire car costs €25-35 a day off-peak and gives you the entire island. Petrol is among the cheapest in the EU. Avoid the airport rental desks — book online ahead with Cicar or PluscarCanarias for better rates.
Sample budget for one person, one week, off-peak: Flight £140, apartment 7 nights £210, food £140, hire car (3 days) £75, activities £80. Total: £645.
